Argan Oil is known as Moroccan Gold because it is rare and highly prized. Pressed from the fruit of the argan tree which only grows in the southern part of Morocco, the fruits of the argan tree are green. They look like an olive but are larger and rounder. The oil that comes from these little pods has an intensely nutty taste and hints of smokiness. Research has found it to be extremely rich in vitamin E and antioxidants.
You need just a little Argan Oil to enhance and finish dishes or try these suggestions:
- Grind almonds and mix with a little Argan Oil and honey until you have a paste - eat with little strips of toasted pitta bread for a starter.
- Add chopped fresh coriander and a few drops of Argan Oil to each bowl of lentil soup before you serve it.
- Mix a little argan oil with lemon juice for a light sparkly nutty salad dressing to serve on toasted goat's cheese.
- Sprinkle a few drops on roast squash or on pumpkin soup.
- Add a little Argan Oil to chopped shallot and lemon juice and use as a dressing for lightly poached salmon or smoked salmon.
- When frying chicken for any kind of couscous dish, add a tablespoon to the oil for frying the chicken to give it a nutty flavour, or mix in a tablespoon to a finished couscous salad.
- Drizzle a little Argan Oil on rich vanilla icecream for a nutty taste.
